Two young children were inappropriately touched at an Oshawa schoolyard over the weekend prompting police to send out a warning to the community.

Police are telling the public to watch out for a man who approached two children at a playground located at the corner of Grandview Street North and Beatrice Street East sometime between 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday.

A five-year-old girl told her parents that she was playing with a neighbour when they were approached by a male on a bicycle.

The girl told her parents that the male asked them if they wanted to play a game. At some point during the game, the girl and her neighbour were touched inappropriately.

The male was last seen riding a bicycle heading east on Beatrice Street East.

According to investigators, parents were at the schoolyard at the time but the incident happened just out of their view.

Police are searching for a suspect described as a male with brown skin and dark spots on his face. He was last seen wearing a sleeveless shirt with a basketball on the front and black shorts.

The bicycle he is believed to have been riding was blue with stripes on it.

Investigators are also asking to residents in the neighbourhood who have video surveillance systems installed in their homes to check their files to see if the incident was caught on camera.

Anyone with information regarding the investigation is being asked to call Det. Const. Hancock of the Sexual Assault Unit at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 5341 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
