Police have arrested a 42-year-old suspect in connection with the 2012 shooting death of a young man in Mississauga.

Officers responded to a call about a break-in at a home on Corkstone Glade by three men at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 17, 2012. Upon their arrival, police discovered the body of 22-year-old Ibrahim Abukar and “was evidence that an altercation had taken place.”

Investigators were later able to identify two of the suspects.

Haldane Smithen-Davis, 36, was arrested in the United Kingdom in September 2015 and charged with robbery with a firearm. He is currently appealing his extradition back to Canada.

Jason Hamilton, 42, surrendered to police on Monday and will be charged with manslaughter, police say.

None of the charges against either suspect have been proven in court.

Hamilton is set to appear in court on Tuesday.
