Toronto police have released security footage that shows the moments before a man was fatally shot, hoping someone can help identify those in the video.

The black-and-white security video was captured on Sunday, Nov. 16 at the Garden Restaurant located at 153 Dundas St., just east of University Avenue.

Tariq Mohammed, 31, arrived at the restaurant with a group of friends shortly after 3 a.m. Police said that approximately 40 minutes after they arrived, a group of four men entered the restaurant.

The video shows three of the suspects waiting in the bathroom area of the restaurant. A short time later, Mohammed entered the area with a friend who police said was wearing a "noticeable" amount of jewelry.

Two of the suspects can be seen pulling out guns and attacking Mohammed and his friend. One man pistol-whips Mohammed while another rips two chains off the friend's neck.

Police did not release footage of the actual shooting, but said at a news conference Friday that a second altercation took place about a minute later.

Mohammed and his friend got away, but were confronted again by the group by the takeout counter at the front of the restaurant. Two women were injured by stray bullets during the altercation, and Mohammed was fatally shot.

Police did not say exactly how many shots were fired at the time.

The suspects left the restaurant, and were seen fleeing southbound on Chestnut Street a few minutes after the shooting.

Two months after the shooting, two people were arrested and charged with first-degree murder, robbery and assault. Police say they are still looking for five people who were at the restaurant at the time.

At Friday's news conference, Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux told media that police are hopeful that someone will recognize the people shown in the video.

"They are not novices to the criminal justice system. These are going to be people who are extremely dangerous and people who have been involved in criminal offences in the past," he said.
