A personal support worker who was charged with the sexual assault of a 95-year-old man at his home in East York was sentenced to 23 months in jail on Wednesday.

Danilo Alcala, 62, was sentenced to 23 months in jail, Det. Sgt. Jim Gotell tells CTV Toronto, but will spend another five months confined after being given 18 months credit for pre-trial custody.

The family of the elderly victim -- who suffers from Alzheimer's disease -- approached police with allegations that Alcala abused the man in his home in the area of Broadview and Mortimer Avenues on the morning of July 16.

Alcala was arrested at the home of another client later that same day.

Investigators said at the time of his arrest that Alcala had worked as a personal support worker for 10 years.

Alcala’s employer, Spectrum Health Care, said they have found the victim a new support worker and he is doing well.
