Authorities in central Ontario are monitoring water levels as Muskoka remains under a state of emergency due to severe flooding. There has been a drop of eight to ten inches in North Branch of the Muskoka River which provides relief to low lying areas, according to officials.

Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement toured the town with Bracebridge deputy Mayor Rick Maloney and the fire department on Thursday. Clement tweeted photos of his flooded riding and commented on compromised banks and road erosion.

Before the cleanup begins, officials are waiting for the water levels to recede so they can evaluate property damage. “Based on what we’re seeing it could be another week before we can even get in to start estimating the damage,” Minden Hills Reeve Barbara Reid told CTV Toronto.

The flooding has displaced people from their homes and stalled businesses in the town. Red Cross estimates more than a thousand homes have been affected.

According to Environment Canada, more rain is expected Friday and Saturday in Muskoka.
