A 49-year-old snowmobiler has died in hospital after crashing on a trail near Wasaga Beach, Ont., police said Tuesday.

Police say the collision occurred around 4:30 p.m. Monday on the OFSC “B” trail. The rider was part of a group outing when she crashed into a ditch near a curve.

The woman was first taken to Collingwood Hospital and later airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, where she died of her injuries overnight.

Monday's crash marked the second time in 10 days that a snowmobiler has left the trail and crashed into a tree, police said.

Authorities are warning the public to take extra caution on the trails this week, as a drop in temperature has caused significant freezing in the region. They say riders need to slow down when rounding bends and be aware of icy conditions.
