A low-pressure system moving up from the U.S.'s Ohio Valley should make for a snowy commute in the GTA on Wednesday morning, with up to 15 centimetres of snow possible.

In a special weather statement issued Tuesday, Environment Canada said the snow will reach Windsor and Goderich early this evening and the GTA by midnight.

By early Wednesday afternoon, the snow will move up through the Muskokas and the Algonquin Highlands then into the Ottawa Valley by Wednesday evening.

"Current indications are that the highest snow amounts will fall south of a line from Huron county to Ottawa Valley where 10 to 20  centimetres of snow is expected over a period of 18 to 20 hours," the statement said.

"Slightly higher amounts are possible for regions near the west end of Lake Ontario as the east winds pick up additional moisture from the open water."

The snowfall amounts aren't expected to reach the snowfall warning threshold of 15 centimetres in a 24-hour period.
