Skull found in Vaughan belongs to missing Alzheimer’s patient

Police have identified the man whose skull was found in a wooded area in Vaughan, Ont., as a Alzheimer’s patient who’s been missing since 2011.

The coroner confirmed that the skull belongs to Robert Hagans, 76, who was reported missing in September 2011, York Regional Police said on Friday.

Foul play is not suspected.

Hagans -- a retired mechanical engineer was last seen on July 22, 2011, near the intersection of Finch Avenue and Don Mills Road.

The police investigation was launched after a human skull was found by a passerby on Sunday near a highway ramp in Vaughan, just north of Toronto.

The skull was found in wooded area close to Bathurst Street and Highway 407.
