The Special Investigations Unit said they are looking for witnesses to come forward after a man suffered a serious head injury during an altercation with Toronto police officers on Friday night.

The SIU said police received a call about a fight at St. Clair West subway station, located near St. Clair Avenue and Bathurst Street, around 6 p.m.

Police officers found a 50-year-old suspect, who they believed was involved in the fight, while they were leaving the subway about 100 metres from the station.

The SIU said there was an interaction between the suspect and several officers. The man was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital with a serious head injury.

The SIU believes there are more witnesses and are urging people to come forward. They said anyone with information should call 1-800-787-8529.

The SIU is called to investigate all incidents involving Ontario police services that result in death, serious injury, or an allegation of sexual assault.
