BANCROFT, Ont. - The province's police watchdog is investigating after an officer and two men were injured in an incident at a home north of Belleville.

Police say officers were called to a residence in Bancroft at 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators say they were escorting a 25-year-old man from the home when they say he grabbed a weapon and struck an officer, leading to shots being fired.

They say the suspect, the officer and a male resident of the house were taken to Kingston General Hospital with unspecified injuries.

The Special Investigations Unit has been called in to probe the incident.

The SIU is an arm's-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
