A teenager who was shot in the thigh while riding a bike over the long weekend was also wounded in the deadly Danzig Street shooting, in which two people were killed and 23 injured, CTV Toronto has learned.
The 17-year-old cyclist was chased down and shot while riding in the Victoria Park area, on Chester Le Boulevard, Sunday afternoon.
Police said the 17-year-old is lucky. Not only did he escape the Danzig Street shooting, on Sunday his alleged shooter’s gun jammed and he was able to escape with only a thigh wound.
The cyclist is recovering in hospital.
He also faces charges after the shooting, including possession of cocaine for the purposes of trafficking. He cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
A 16-year-old is now facing 14 charges in connection to Sunday’s shooting, including a charge of attempted murder.
He made a brief court appearance Wednesday.
In another connection to the Danzig Street shooting, the 16-year-old is also related to one of the 23 people injured at that barbecue on July 16, which has been called the worst public shooting in Toronto’s history.
