One person was pronounced dead on scene after a shooting outside a venue in Mississauga early Saturday morning.

Peel police were first dispatched to the Queen Street South and Church Street area at around 3:50 a.m. after receiving numerous 911 calls about a disturbance that was taking place.

Upon arrival, police say they located one person that had been shot dead outside a venue that is rented out for various events. The venue is located next to a church.

The shooting took place about 2.5 kilometres away from the scene of another shooting near Credit Valley Road and Eglinton Avenue that happened at around the same time.

Paramedics previously told CP24 that a man was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition after reportedly being shot while in a vehicle.

Police say that there was also a second victim in that shooting.

According to Const. Harinder Sohi, officers are currently working to determine whether there is any connection between the two shootings.

“We are not sure whether they are connected to this scene or not and we are just trying to figure that out now,” he said.

Sohi said it is his understanding that there was “quite a few people” in the area at the time of the shooting, as some sort of event was taking place at the venue.

The constable, however, said it is too early to say whether there will be any eye witnesses.

“We did receive a lot of 911 calls but we are still trying to figure out who the witnesses are and who was on scene and who wasn’t,” he said.

No information has been released about possible suspects at this point.
