A section of King Street was closed Wednesday night after police received a call reporting a suspicious package Wednesday night.

Police say they were contacted with a report of a suspicious package lying on the sidewalk on the southwest corner of the Yonge and King streets intersection at around 8 p.m.

“The area was cordoned off [and] the Explosive Disposal Unit, which is a subset of the Emergency Task Force, arrived [on the scene],” Toronto police Duty Insp. Frank Barredo told CP24 at the scene.

“They are in the process of X-raying the device to make sure there is no risk to the public,” Barredo added.

The closure is currently in place between Bay and Victoria streets.

Trains are currently bypassing King Station and 504 King streetcars are holding at Yonge Street, the TTC says.

Shuttle buses are currently operating both ways from Broadview Station to King and Church streets.
