Motorists will want to take note of some major events that are shutting down several key roads over the weekend.

The city is urging motorists to avoid the closures, if possible, and encouraging people to use public transit to get around.

Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, an all-night festival with more than 110 contemporary art locations, returns this weekend. The event takes place from sunset on Saturday to sunrise on Sunday.

The following road closures will be in effect:

  • Northbound University Avenue between Richmond and College streets, and Queen’s Park Crescent between College and Charles streets from Friday at 9 p.m. to Sunday at 9 a.m.
  • Bay Street between Wellington and Dundas streets from Saturday at 9 a.m. to Sunday at 9 a.m.
  • King Street West between Yonge and Peter streets from Saturday at 3 p.m. to Sunday at 9 a.m.
  • Queen Street West between Victoria Street and University Avenue from Saturday at 4 p.m. to Sunday at 8 a.m.

The event will also have an impact on TTC service:

  • King Street streetcars are using Queen Street between Spadina Avenue and Church Street, starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday until 9 a.m. on Sunday.
  • The TTC says additional streetcars will be added to the 301 Queen and 306 Carlton routes to improve service frequency from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes overnight.
  • In addition to regular all-night Blue Night bus service, the TTC is extending all-night service on the Bloor-Danforth subway line from Keele to Woodbine stations. Subways will operate until 7:30 a.m.
  • The Yonge-University-Spadina line will run all night from St. Clair West to Eglinton stations. Train frequency will be every 10 to 15 minutes and the last trains will be departing at 7 a.m.
  • From 1 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., the 320 Yonge Blue Night bus will only operate between Eglinton Station and Steeles Avenue. The 5 Avenue Road and 94 Wellesley buses will be prevented from using Queen’s Park Crescent East.

Free all-night parking is available at TTC commuter parking lots. Spadina subway shuttle buses will run from St Clair West Station, stopping at TTC commuter parking lots at Wilson and Downsview stations.

GO Transit is also providing extra late-night service. Click here for the extended schedule.

On Sunday, thousands of people are expected to attend the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure.

The event closes some downtown streets as people hit the pavement to raise money for breast cancer research, education and awareness programs.

Last year, Canadians raised more than $30 million.

From 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., University Avenue/Queen’s Park Crescent/Queen’s Park will be closed between Edward and Bloor streets, and Bloor Street West will be closed between St. George Street and Queen’s Park.

Also on Sunday, the annual firefighter memorial is taking place in the same area.

That event will close the northbound lanes of Queen’s Park Crescent between College and Grosvenor streets from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
