From the Gardiner Expressway closure to the GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon, make sure to give yourself extra time. Toronto roads will be very busy this weekend. 


Major road closures

The Gardiner Expressway will be closed in both directions for annual spring maintenance this weekend. 

The closure will be from Highway 427 to Carlaw Avenue and will start on Friday, May 1 at 8 p.m. and reopen Sunday, May 3 at 6 a.m.

It is scheduled to reopen ahead of the GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon Sunday, to help improve traffic conditions in the city.


Event closures

The annual GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon is set for Sunday, May 3.

Lane restrictions will take effect in the area bounded by Bayview Avenue in the east, South Kingsway in the west, Lake Shore Boulevard in the south and Finch Avenue in the north.

A number of ramps on the Gardiner Expressway and the Don Valley Parkway will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.:

  • Gardiner Expressway ramp to eastbound Jarvis Street: Access to Jarvis Street will be closed; access to Lake Shore Boulevard will remain open
  • Gardiner Expressway ramp to northbound Spadina: Access to westbound Lake Shore boulevard will be closed
  • Spadina ramp to the westbound Gardiner Expressway: Access to westbound Lake Shore Boulevard will be closed
  • Don Valley Parkway Bayview/Bloor ramp: Access to southbound Bayview Avenue will be closed

Lake Shore Boulevard closures

The intersection of Lake Shore Boulevard and Carlaw Avenue will be partially closed from Friday at 8 p.m. to Monday at 5 a.m. for urgent repairs. The westbound lane of Lake Shore will be closed at Carlaw and drivers will be detoured north to Eastern Avenue or Queen Street East. Westbound traffic can access Lake Shore west of Morse Street. At least one lane of eastbound traffic on Lake Shore will be available to drivers at all times.

Southbound traffic on Carlaw will be diverted at Queen Street East. Northbound traffic will be permitted to turn right and travel eastbound on Lake Shore.

Two westbound and two eastbound lanes will be occupied at Leslie Street all day, every day due to a TTC project.

The northbound and southbound left lanes on Park Lawn Road will be occupied due to road widening, resurfacing, sidewalk construction and sanitary-sewer replacement from midnight to noon until June 30.

The westbound curb lane at Park Lawn Road will be occupied due to sidewalk construction and road widening from midnight to noon until June 30.

TTC closures and diversions

Trains on Line 1 (YUS) will bypass Union station on Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3.

The TTC will be completing work on the station’s new second platform.

If you need to get to Union station this weekend, you can walk from King or St. Andrew stations, or take the 6 Bay bus.

Additional streetcars will operate for customers who require accessible transit.
