Metrolinx is warning passengers that upgrades to the transit pass system mean money transfers will not show up right away.

In a message on the Metrolinx website, representatives said that the system is being upgraded in preparation for the Union Pearson Express service, and to add "account improvements" for customers.

The company that runs GO Transit did not provide details on the upgrades, but said that the maintenance meant that some transactions were not being immediately processed.

Presto cards, used on the GO Transit system, are reloadable transit passes that can be used instead of paying cash or tokens. Users can load money onto the cards online, by smartphone app, by phone or in person at customer service counters.

Due to system maintenance, Metrolinx and GO are warning customers that it may take up to two days for money transferred to their pass to show up.

The maintenance should be completed by Sunday.
