Environment Canada officials were in Amherstburg, Ont., Saturday investigating whether a tornado touched down overnight.

A severe weather warning was issued Friday night for the Essex County area southwest of Windsor.

Some residents reported seeing a funnel cloud. Investigators are examining a 1-kilometre long swath of land where significant damage took place, meteorologist Sarah Wong told ctvtoronto.ca.

No one was injured but area residents report that shingles blew off the roofs of some homes.

The region has been battered by severe weather over the summer.

On June 23, Midland was hit with an F2 tornado that damaged homes and cut power to 8,000 people.

Earlier in the month, trees were uprooted and the roofs lifted off houses in Leamington when an F1 category tornado and windburst ripped through town.
