Toronto police have issued a public safety alert after workers at a donation centre in Scarborough found shotgun shells in a charity bin.

The ammunition was discovered at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday at the Goodwill at 350 Progress Ave. near Brimley Road.

Police say they don’t know who dropped off the bag.

In a statement released Tuesday, police said they are using this incident to “alert the public that this is an inappropriate and unsafe means to dispose of ammunition.”

“If you have found or unwanted ammunition,” the statement said, “call police and arrange to have it dealt with safely.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-4100 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
