Toronto police are expected to update the public Thursday on the New Year's Day homicide of Mike Pimentel.

Police are also expected to issue an appeal for a woman they have deemed "a person of interest" to contact police.

Pimentel, 24, was fatally stabbed in Liberty Village after leaving a New Year's party.

The father of a young girl suffered multiple stab wounds when he got into an altercation near East Liberty Street and Hanna Avenue at about 3 a.m. Police said Pimentel and some friends left a nightclub at the CNE on foot, but he became separated from them as he stopped along the way to talk to other partygoers.

Pimentel was rushed to St. Michael's Hospital where he died a few hours later.

Earlier this week, authorities said they had "an excellent description" of a woman who they believe was with the person responsible for the Jan. 1 killing of Pimentel.

The woman is described as 20 to 30 years old, 5'6" to 5'8", with dark hair with long, blonde, hair extensions. She was last seen wearing black knee-high boots, a black skirt with a white top and black waist-length jacket with a design on the back.

Pimentel was Toronto's second homicide of the year.
