Toronto police are asking for the public’s help in finding Christopher Peloso, the husband of former provincial cabinet minister George Smitherman, after he went missing early Sunday morning.

Police say Peloso, 40, was last seen at approximately 11 a.m. near the Bloor Street West and Lansdowne Avenue area.

Peloso went missing in early September and was found after two days of searching, in an area near railway tracks at Landsdowne Avenue and Dupont Road.

Officers say they are concerned for Peloso’s safety and have set-up a command post near the area while they commence a foot search.

Peloso is described as white, five-foot-eight, 140 pounds with thinning brown hair. He was last seen wearing a dark blue bomber jacket, denim pants and black dress boots.

Smitherman was the first openly gay MPP in Ontario and has been married to Peloso since 2007. They have two adopted children and Peloso has a daughter from a previous marriage.

“Freedom from depression has been elusive for Christopher and once again he is missing and we fear for his safety,” Smitherman wrote in a tweet sent out around 7:30 p.m.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police of Crime Stoppers at 416-222-8477 (TIPS).
