Police are searching for an assailant after a man was shot in the leg Saturday morning.

Toronto Paramedics were called to the Jane Street and Wilson Avenue area just before 10 a.m. to treat a man in his 20s found outside a variety store with gunshot wounds.

Firefighters who heard the shots from their station across the street arrived quickly and applied pressure to the wounds.

Children who had been in a nearby hair salon had to be escorted past bullet shell casings.

Police said the victim, who is known to them, was hit in the leg three times.

A witness told CTV Toronto that the victim and suspect had been arguing before the gunfire.

Police described the suspect as black and about 25-years old. He was last seen wearing a grey sweatshirt and blue pants.

Police spent much of the morning scouring the park behind the plaza for evidence, and searching cars in the area, although it is believed the two arrived on foot and that the suspect fled on foot.

Anyone with information is asked to call Toronto Police at 416-808-3100.
