OAKVILLE, Ont. - A 41-year-old woman is facing a number of charges after allegedly stealing jewelry and pieces of identification from a woman who hired her as a housekeeper.

Halton Regional Police allege the thefts took place between January and April of this year while the housekeeper had unsupervised access to the Oakville, Ont., home.

They allege she stole about $20,000 worth of jewelry from the home.

Police also allege she redirected her employer's mail, stole multiple pieces of the other woman's identification and used them to apply for fraudulent credit cards in her name.

Police say she used those credit cards to make several large purchases, including major appliances and building materials.

Sherry Lori-Lynn Champagne of Brantford, Ont., is facing 13 charges including two counts of theft over $5,000 and four counts of identity fraud.
