Police have released video surveillance footage from the night of a fatal shooting outside a Scarborough pizza shop that shows the suspect being dropped off near the crime scene.

In the grainy video footage taken on Sept. 14, the suspect is seen exiting a light-coloured vehicle and running towards Halal Pizza Time & Restaurant, located in the Markham Road and Lawrence Avenue area.

Restaurant employee Abdul Monir and the shop’s owner, Rahim Dorani, were gunned down outside the restaurant around midnight. Monir -- who left behind a wife and two young children in Afghanistan -- was pronounced dead at the scene. The owner was rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery.

"Releasing this video is an attempt to trigger the memories of potential witnesses," Det.- Sgt. Graham Gibson told reporters Tuesday morning. "Witnesses may have seen something important that night and they may not have remembered it at first but seeing (this) video may help them realize that what they saw was actually important," he said.

In another surveillance video taken near the scene of the shooting, the same light-coloured vehicle is seen parked in front of the Cedarbrae Library. The suspect is seen in the video running across the library parking lot and entering the vehicle on the passenger side. Police say the vehicle left the scene and travelled south on Confederation Drive.

An unidentified female is also seen in that video. Police say they are hoping to speak to her.

"She is probably in that area, but we have been unable to locate her despite our canvassing," Gibson said.

Police previously described the suspect as black, likely in his 30s, with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a light-blue windbreaker and a black baseball cap. Police have not provided a description of the driver of the vehicle.
