Police have released video surveillance footage of a man and a woman who they say witnessed a fatal stabbing outside a North York bar in February.
At a news conference on Friday, Homicide Det.-Sgt. Gary Giroux said he hoped the man and woman in the video would identify themselves to police.
“Or (I hope) a member of the public will contact us with regards to their identify so we can make arrangements to speak with them directly with regards to what they saw that night," Giroux said.
Police believe the man in the video is watching victim Kiowa Wind McComb being stabbed to death following an argument outside a Jane Street bar and then reacting as McComb’s body was dragged along the sidewalk.
The video shows the man before and after the stabbing, police said. They also believe the woman in the video witnessed the stabbing.
The incident occurred on the sidewalk outside Gucci's Bar and Grill near Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue at around 2 a.m. on Feb. 9.
McComb, 20, was rushed to hospital with stab wounds to his neck and torso but was pronounced dead a short time later.
McComb’s brother, meanwhile, ran to the Merrill and Patika avenues area, where he was picked up by paramedics and rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the stabbing, police pulled over a cab in the area and arrested 35-year-old Andre Appleton.
Police, however, said that a second suspect had gotten out of the vehicle before it was stopped. At the news conference on Friday, Giroux said police no longer believe that man was involved in the stabbing but still want to speak with him.
Appleton is currently charged with second-degree murder as well as the attempted murder of McComb’s older brother, who was also stabbed but survived.
Any witnesses or anyone with information about the witnesses should call Toronto Police Homicide Squad or Crime Stoppers.
