York Regional Police have identified and arrested two youths in connection with an arson at a Vaughan grocery store Sunday night.

Police responded to the call around 7:30 p.m. at the store in the Weston Road and Rutherford Road area.

Officers noticed smoke coming from the inside of the store when they arrived on the scene. Vaughan Fire and Rescue Services were able to get it under control and extinguish the fire.

Police said store staff and customers were able to leave safely and no other local businesses were affected by the fire.

Video surveillance from the grocery store captured two men on camera, according to police.

York police spokesperson Cst. Andy Pattenden said the surveillance video shows the men walking into the grocery store. They remained inside for a while, Pattenden said, and then they lit a bag of chips on fire, put it back on the rack and walked out. The men are seen leaving the store and walking south through a parking lot toward Rutherford Road.

The store remains closed as police and fire services investigate. There was more than $1 million in damages as a result of the fire.
