Toronto police are alerting the public of a safety concern after a 14-year-old girl was followed into a residential building and sexually assaulted in North York.

The incident happened on July 24 at around 7:12 p.m.

According to police, a 14-year-old walked into a residential apartment building near Graydon Hall Drive and Don Mills Road in North York when a man followed her inside, claiming he did not have his keys.

Once inside, police say the man started a conversation of a sexual nature with the girl.

The girl told police that the man then followed her into an elevator where she was sexually assaulted.

The girl was able to get out of the elevator shortly after and left the man inside, police say.

The incident was later reported to police.

Police are searching for a suspect described as an Asian male with a tanned complexion in his mid-40s who is approximately five-foot-nine and 200 pounds. He has a stocky build with short, straight, dark brown hair, brown eyes and is believed to be slightly unshaven. He was last seen wearing a yellow T-shirt with a large red logo on the front, black pants, a black baseball cap with a red logo and gloves.
