Oxford County Police have identified two men who died Tuesday when the tractor-trailer they were in plunged off an embankment and into the Nith River.

The men were both from Brampton, according to investigators. Anand Vora, 38, was driving the vehicle and Jasjit Sandhu, 37, was his passenger.

The American company that operates the truck told CP24 that the cargo was making its way to Mississauga from Chicago.

The crash happened Tuesday morning as the truck was travelling eastbound. Police are still trying to determine why the vehicle veered off the road and crashed through the overpass.

Dozens of cases of cargo spilled out into the water and the truck itself became fully submerged in the river.

Police divers were not able to find the men’s bodies until Tuesday evening.

The highway was closed for most of the day yesterday and commuters should expect more traffic delays today.

The OPP sent out a news release Wednesday warning that Highway 401 eastbound, between Oxford Road #29 and the Trussler Road overpass, will have single and at times double lane closures throughout the day.
