Police are reviewing security camera footage in an effort to glean clues about the identity of three men who burst in on a birthday party and started blasting.

The gunshots hit six people -- five men and one woman. Three remain in serious condition in hospital on Monday. One is in good condition and two others have already been released.

In a YouTube video, Sgt. Jason Coulthard described a "chaotic scene," with blood trails leading everywhere. Two of the victims were found at the scene, while four others were located at hospital.

The victims were some of the crowd at an all-night birthday party in a city-run townhouse at 530 The West Mall. The shooting took place at 3 a.m. Sunday.

Police said Monday they have recovered physical evidence, a weapon, five vehicles and security-camera footabe.

Some early speculation centred on whether the shootings could have been in retaliation for any one of three recent gun homicides in west Toronto.

However, "at this point in the investigation, I am not able to link them to any previous shootings," Det. Andrew Gibson told reporters on Monday.

"That is something we are investigating. We are trying to establish connections to gang activity, of course," he said.

Gibson said police want to talk with party-goers, some of whom fled after the shooting.

"We're dealing with a large amount of people, and there were a couple of children that were in the residence, and we are seeking the assistance of people that were at the party," he said.

One resident told CTV Toronto that guns, gangs and drugs are a problem in the neighbourhood. "Greg" said he wasn't shocked at all by the shooting, "because I know what goes on here at night-time."

Late at night, one can see Cadillac Escalade SUVs and Mercedes Benz cars in the parking lots for short stays, he said.

The gunmen are suspected to have left in a late-model vehicle of expensive make. It is either black or blue in colour.

The last reported shooting incident in the West Mall area occurred in late January.

Two cars roared into a parking lot at 475 The West Mall at about 1 a.m. on Jan. 30. The victim got into a confrontation with five men in the other vehicle. One of them pulled out a handgun, chased the victim and shot him.
