A 21-year-old man has been arrested following a lockdown at two Durham region schools on Friday.

The campuses of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and Durham College were put on lockdown for about two hours after police received a call about an armed person at around 12:30 p.m.

The campuses were locked down when witnesses said they saw a man force a woman believed to be his ex-girlfriend into a car in the area.

Though initial reports suggested the man was armed, police did not find any weapons during the arrest.

The victim and the accused were located in a motel in nearby Scarborough and the woman was not physically harmed during the incident, police said.

The man, whose name has not been released, has been charged with forcible confinement and kidnapping.

He's also facing charges for mischief under $5,000, theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property and three counts of breaching probation.
