A female pedestrian has died after she was struck by a transport truck while crossing through an intersection in Mississauga.

Police in Peel Region say the collision occurred near Meyerside and Ordan drives at around 12:15 p.m.

Sgt. Josh Colley told CP24 via phone that the transport truck stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police.

He said it’s “extremely early” in the investigation and thus too soon to say where exactly the victim was crossing when she was struck.

“Our investigators will be looking at all surveillance and speaking to witnesses to determine the events leading up to her being struck,” Colley told CP24.

One witness said that the truck involved continued for a short distance after the rear wheels struck the woman.

Another witness said the victim looked familiar to him as he would see the woman, who he said was in her late 30s, walking down the street as she worked in the area.

People who work nearby told CTV News Toronto that the corner of Meyerside Drive is busy with workers who often go to a hot dog stand, just south of where the woman was struck.

“It’s an industrial area so I mean that could be an avenue but that’s something that our major collision unit will look into,” Const. Bally Saini told CTV News Toronto at the scene.

No charges have been laid in connection with the crash.

Meyerside Drive was closed in both directions between Dixie and Tomken roads to accommodate a police investigation.
