A pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries after a driver lost control of a vehicle and crashed into a hydro pole, which fell on a bus shelter.

A van was travelling west on Lawrence Avenue East, near Railside Road, when it struck a car coming out of a Tim Hortons parking lot.

The driver of the van then lost control and crashed into a hydro pole, police at the scene said. The pole was knocked over, and landed on a glass bus shelter on the side of the road.

Police said a total of five people were injured in the incident, including one who was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition. It is not yet known whether the pedestrian was hit by the vehicle, the pole, or debris scattered during the crash.

The pedestrian has yet to be identified, so police issued a description of his clothes, hoping someone will know who he is. He was wearing a red jacket with white patches, black pants, a belt and grey running shoes.

Police are investigating, and ask anyone who witnessed the crash to call police at 416-808-3300.
