Those planning to drive in Toronto may be better off taking transit, with several road closures expected to block traffic over the weekend.

The annual Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival will close part of Lake Shore Boulevard for the entire day Saturday and part of Sunday morning.

The following roads will be closed from 1 a.m. on Saturday to 6 a.m. on Sunday:

  • Westbound Lake Shore, from Strachan Avenue to Parkside Drive
  • Eastbound Lake Shore, from Colborne Lodge to Strachan
  • Dufferin Street, south of Springhurst Avenue

The Gardiner Expressway ramps at Jameson Avenue, Dunn Avenue and British Columbia Road will be closed on Saturday starting shortly after midnight.

The following streets will have restricted vehicle access:

  • Dufferin Street, south of King Street West
  • Dowling Avenue, south of King
  • Stadium Road, south of Lake Shore
  • Queens Quay West, west of Bathurst Street
  • Springhurst Avenue, east and west of Jameson Avenue

In addition to the parade, a significant amount of road work is taking place in the city during the break between the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games. A map of all planned road closures due to construction is available online.
