One man is dead and another has been charged with second-degree murder following an altercation in Carden Township, northeast of Kirkfield, Saturday night.

Kawartha Lakes OPP is investigating the death of the 46-year-old man, whose identity has not been released.

Police have arrested 51-year-old Darrell Walton of Eldon Township. Walton is charged with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm while prohibited.

Meanwhile, Kawartha Lakes OPP officers continue to search for a man they believe has drowned in Lake Scugog, southwest of Peterborough.

Police were called to the area Saturday afternoon after witnesses said a man went swimming off a houseboat and did not re-surface after going under water.

The Port Perry fire department, the police marine unit and the underwater search and rescue team began searching for the man Saturday, but suspended the investigation in the evening.

The search resumed Sunday morning and the body has not been located.

Meanwhile, one person has died in a boathouse fire in the Kawartha Lakes region, according to police.

Firefighters were called to the property in Fenelon Falls early Sunday morning. While fighting the blaze, rescue crews discovered the body, which has since been transported to Toronto for an examination.

The name of the victim is not being released and police do not suspect foul play.
