Ontario health officials have confirmed two additional measles exposure sites in the Greater Toronto Area.
Peel Public Health issued a statement Tuesday following a confirmed case of the potentially fatal illness in an infant from Brampton, Ont.
People who visited the following sites on the following dates may have been exposed to the virus, according to Peel Public Health:
- March 28: Muslim Community Services (first floor) and all common areas in the building at 150 Central Park Dr., Brampton, 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
- March 31: Kings Cross Pharmacy, 17 Kings Cross Rd., Brampton, 3 p.m. – 8 p.m.
- April 1: Kings Cross Pharmacy, 17 Kings Cross Rd., Brampton, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Ontario residents who were at these facilities during the hours listed are asked to check their immunization records to make sure they or their children have had two doses of the measles vaccine.
Peel Public Health recommends two doses of measles vaccine for anyone born after 1969.
Symptoms of the virus include a high fever, cough, runny nose, sore eyes or sensitivity to light, small spots with a white centre on the inside of the mouth, and a red rash lasting four to seven days.
Exposure sites previously released in relation to this case include health-care facilities in Brampton, Ont., and a flight into Toronto Pearson International Airport during the period of March 25 to April 3, 2014.
Anyone who shows measles symptoms is asked to call their health care provider immediately.
