One person is dead and a six-year-old girl is in critical condition following a multi-vehicle crash in Brampton Monday morning.

The collision occurred near Highway 50 and Cottrelle Boulevard shortly before 7 a.m.

According to Peel Regional Police, a Hyundai collided with a transport truck which then struck another vehicle.

Peel Regional Police Const. Bally Saini told CP24 from the scene that all six of those injured were travelling in the Hyundai.

She said two adult males, who were seated in the front of the Hyundai, were transported to hospital with minor injuries while two adult women seated in the back of the vehicle were transported with serious injuries.

The deceased, believed to be an elderly woman, was pronounced at the scene.

Police said a six-year-old girl also sustained serious injuries in the crash and is currently listed as being in critical condition.

The age of the other victims were not immediately provided. It’s unclear how the victims are related.

Saini said that investigators have not determined if speed or weather were factors in the crash.

"We did have light snow," Saini said. "We do urge people to slow down, be precautious and take that extra time."

Saini said police are looking to speak with anyone who may have seen the actions of any other drivers "prior or during" the incident.

Highway 50 has been closed from Clarkway Drive and south to Ebenezer Road as police tend to the scene.

The major collision reconstruction team was at the scene to investigate.
