One person is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Etobicoke early Saturday morning.

The collision occurred at approximately 4 a.m. on Burnhamthorpe Road, just west of Kipling Avenue.

Police say the vehicle was travelling west on Burnhamthorpe Road when it collided with a pole, trapping two occupants inside.

The driver of the car was taken to hospital. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The extent of the driver’s injuries is unclear.

Burnhamthorpe Road and Kipling Avenue were both closed following the accident, but have since been re-opened.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
