EAST GWILLIMBURY, Ont. -- A man is dead and two others are badly injured after a multi-vehicle collision in the Town of East Gwillimbury, north of Toronto.

York Regional Police say the crash happened Thursday night.

Officers responded and found that a Toyota that had been travelling on Leslie Street struck a slow-moving backhoe that was travelling on the shoulder of the road.

The Toyota then went airborne and landed on a Honda.

The driver of the Honda, a 35-year-old man, died at the scene while the driver of the Toyota, a 69-year-old man, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries.

The passenger in that vehicle, a 69-year-old woman, also sustained life-threatening injuries.

All victims are from the Town of Keswick.

A two-year-old child, who was a passenger in the Honda, was not injured.

The driver of the backhoe, a 70-year-old man from the Town of Georgina, was also not hurt.

Police say no charges have been laid so far.
