Provincial police are investigating after a 28-year-old Toronto man drowned in the Ottawa River Saturday evening.

Police have identified the victim as Thang Duc Ngo of North York.

Police say they responded to a call about an unresponsive man who was pulled from the water near Foresters Falls, about two hours northwest of Ottawa, around 6 p.m. Saturday.

Paramedics and staff from a local wilderness touring company performed CPR on Ngo, but the victim was declared dead at the scene.

Ngo had been rafting with friends with the Wilderness Tours company before the group went to a nearby beach for a swim.

Ngo’s friends said he went missing while they were taking a swimming break.

Police do not suspect foul play. A post-mortem has been scheduled.
