Toronto city councillor and 74-year-old Internet sensation Norm Kelly is once again drawing comparisons to Drake, this time with his dance moves.

Kelly shimmied and swayed in a brightly-coloured cube, doing his best impression of the Toronto-born artist's moves in the video for his latest hit.

The Ward 40 councillor shuffled to the "Hotline Bling" beat at the Air Canada Centre on Wednesday, mouthing the words to the new hit.

"I made sure I reviewed the video a couple of times to at least try and capture the essence of his dance style," Kelly said after the dance.

Kelly sang along during the dance to the line: "I know when that hotline bling, that can only mean one thing."

He said he wasn't exactly sure what "hotline bling" meant, but that he believed, "It's a call. It's a phone call. That's my understanding."

Kelly showed off his moves as part of a Toronto Raptors tribute to their 29-year-old global ambassador. Drake has represented the NBA team since 2013, attending news conferences, sporting team jerseys and sitting courtside at some home games.

In honour of the partnership, the Raptors built a box replicating the one seen in Drake's video, and invited fans to attempt their best impressions as part of "Drake Night."

Drake and the team's General Manager Masai Ujiri will speak to the media before tonight's tip-off.

In addition to the partnership with the Raptors, Drake has made headlines over his unlikely friendship with the senior councillor.

The pair struck up the friendship on social media after Kelly defended Drake during a Twitter feud with Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill. Since then, Kelly and Drake have shared photos of each other and been spotted at concerts together.

"He's not only a talented guy but I think that he has become, in the past few years, part of Toronto's brand," Kelly told CTV Toronto.

"A lot of people become famous and they move away from their hometown. Drake has stayed here and he's become, I think, an integral part of the city."
