At least one Brampton resident says they spotted a reptile in a creek that runs through their subdivision on Thursday evening.

Police say they received a call at around 6:20 p.m. from someone who said they saw a baby alligator in one of the area’s drainage ponds around Cottrelle Boulevard and Thorndale Road.

Officers searched the area that night, but did not find anything -- except for a beaver.

Some residents in the area said they would be steering clear of the creek due to the possible sighting.

One woman, whose backyard overlooks the creek, seemed to be rattled by the incident.

“I have kids,” she said. “I have a dog in the backyard.”

Another resident said she stopped taking the route by the creek. However, others were less rattled by a potential alligator in the neighbourhood.

"It's just a baby gator," one resident said.

Peel police said they won’t continue to search, but urge those in the community to keep an eye out and be careful.
