The mother of a man charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run on New Year’s Day that left a seven-year-old boy dead has now been charged as well.
Jacob Favila, of Ajax, was killed when the Honda Odyssey he was travelling in was rear-ended by a Hummer in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Dixie Road at around 4:40 p.m. on Jan. 1.
The Hummer sped away from the scene of the accident and was found abandoned on Dixie Road a short time later.
On Tuesday, police announced that Luisa Baladaris, 63, of Toronto, has been charged with obstructing police.
Last week, police arrested Baladaris’ 30-year-old son Jose Olmedo Renteria without incident on Highway 401 near Cobourg.
He is charged with dangerous driving causing death, criminal negligence causing death and failure to remain at the scene of an accident in connection with the fatal crash.
Baladaris is scheduled to appear in court on March 4.
