Police are investigating the death of a 28-year-old woman who was found unconscious and suffering from "obvious signs of trauma" on a Markham driveway Friday morning.

The woman, whose name has not been released by police, was found on a driveway on Norbury Drive, near 14th Avenue and Markham Road, at approximately 6:15 a.m.

She was rushed to hospital in critical condition. At 8:30 a.m., police reported that she had died.

Police are still trying to determine what happened to the woman, but CTV Toronto has learned that there was a large amount of blood that was found in the home’s garage.

"There are some obvious signs of trauma… but we can’t confirm right now what the cause of death is," Const. Laura Nicolle said Friday.

Police say the woman is from Markham, but it’s unclear if she lived in the home where she was found.

Neighbours said they didn't know the victim, but believed the home was being operated as a rooming house.

The York Regional Police homicide unit is asking any witnesses who haven't yet spoken to investigators to come forward.

Anyone with information should call police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7865, or Crime Stoppers anonymously online or by calling 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
