TTC fares are rising on Sunday, which also marks the first day children 12 and younger will be able to take buses, streetcars and subway trains for free.

The March 1 price increase is 10 cents per token or ticket. Seven tokens is going to cost $19.60 instead of $18.90. Ten-packs of senior and student tickets will cost $19.50 instead of $18.50.

Cash fares, however, remain $3 for adults and $2 for seniors and students with the proper ID.

Metropasses that went on sale at the end of February cost several dollars more. Adult passes went from $133.75 to $141.50, while student and senior Metropasses went from $108 to $112.

Day passes have gone from $11 to $11.50.

Meanwhile, the TTC warns that those using 2013 senior or student tickets will be out of luck as of Sunday, when they stop being accepted. Those with 2014 senior or student tickets have until April 30 to use them up.

The TTC board voted unanimously in favour of the fare hike last month, after Mayor John Tory announced a $95-million proposal to reduce crowding and wait times on the 21 busiest bus routes.

Tory had campaigned on a promise not to raise fares in 2015, but after being briefed on the budget situation by TTC CEO Andy Byford, he said he came to the conclusion a fare hike was best.
