Two teenagers and two men have been arrested and charged in connection with a bank robbery and a home invasion that occurred last year.

One of the men was already facing charges when investigators came to believe that he and three others were involved in the home invasion, police said in a release on Wednesday.

Police believe the two suspects and two teenage boys went to an apartment on Dec. 9, located at 257 Sherbourne St., just north of Dundas Street.

In a statement Wednesday, police said the males went to a specific apartment and knocked on the door. When the resident didn't open the door, they smashed it open.

According to police, they then assaulted and robbed the 49-year-old resident. The victim managed to escape and jumped over the balcony, where he clung to the ledge until the men left. He then called police.

As a result of the investigation, a 17-year-old boy has been charged with robbery while armed with a firearm, failure to comply with recognizance and possession of property obtained by crime. A 16-year-old boy has been charged with robbery while armed with a firearm and failure to comply with recognizance.

Two men, aged 23 and 25, have each been charged with robbery while armed with a firearm.

The men are also believed to have been involved in a bank robbery that occurred on the afternoon of Nov. 23 in the Sheppard Avenue East and Markham Road area.

The men were armed with a shotgun and a handgun, and both wore balaclavas and gloves, police said. One man allegedly approached a teller and demanded money while the other pointed his gun at bank staff and customers. Both men then fled with an undisclosed quantity of money.

As a result of that investigation, the men have been charged with robbery while armed with a firearm and disguise with intent.
