Two people were injured when a small plane crashed at a campground northwest of Toronto.

Police said a father and daughter had taken off from the Frand Valley, Ont. airstrip and were heading to Ottawa on Friday when they ran into mechanical problems.

The four-seat single-engine plane went down at approximately 12:30 p.m., crashing at the nearby Rainbow Ridge Resort.

Provincial police say both occupants of the plane were able to escape the wreckage with minor injuries. The father and daughter just narrowly missed a trailer as their plane crashed.

Fire officials have been called to the campground to clean up a small fuel spill caused by the crash, OPP Const. Paul Nancekivell told CTV Toronto.

The plane took down nearby power lines, and a Hydro One crew was dispatched to make the necessary repairs.
