severe thunderstorm watch for large parts of southern Ontario, including Toronto, Halton-Peel, York-Durham, Hamilton and Ottawa has ended.

The forecast for Toronto on Saturday called for a high of 29 C, with showers starting early in the afternoon.

The weather agency warned Saturday afternoon that Toronto may see the development of "dangerous thunderstorms," capable of producing strong winds, large hail and "torrential rain."

It also warned that the region may see rapidly rising rivers and creeks. If a thunderstorm strikes, residents should take cover immediately and stay inside.

It also warned that the region may see rapidly rising rivers and creeks. If a thunderstorm strikes, residents should take cover immediately and stay inside.

"There isn't a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm," Environment Canada said. "Stay away from all windows, skylights and doors. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!"

The Toronto and Region Conservation Flood Management also issued a warning over rising water levels in rivers and streams.

"Rapidly rising water, high river and stream levels, or fast-moving water all create dangerous conditions," the agency said in a statement. "The possibility exists for flooding on roadways and in low-lying areas."
