An 18-year-old male is facing a dozen charges after being found in the Jane and Finch area allegedly carrying drugs and a loaded gun.

On Monday at around 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a call about a community concern near the area of Jane Street and Turf Grassway.

As the officers were patrolling the hallway of a building in the area, they smelled marijuana and started to investigate a group of men nearby.

Police allege one of the men assaulted an officer during the investigation.

At some point, the officer attempted to make an arrest and a struggle ensued.

Police said one of the men then reached into a bag he was carrying and pulled out a firearm.

Officers were able to knock the gun from the man’s hand and made an arrest.

No one was seriously injured in the incident.

Toronto resident Rodrigues Sendia is facing a dozen charges, including carrying a concealed weapon, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, assaulting a peace officer and possession of a weapon obtained by crime.

He was scheduled to make an appearance in court this morning.

Following the arrest, officers continued to search the building. It was there that they located and seized another firearm – a loaded Mosserg 715T .22 calibre rifle.

Police said the firearm appears unrelated to the earlier arrest.
