Toronto police are investigating the discovery of what is believed to be a human hand at a recycling plant in North York.

The hand was discovered by an employee at the recycling plant near Arrow Road and Deerhide Crescent on Tuesday at around 10 a.m.

Police are currently on the scene and are trying to determine whether the remains found are in fact human.

On April 19, a human torso was found behind a butcher shop in the city’s east end.

On Saturday, police identified the torso as belonging to 30-year-old Melissa Cooper of Toronto. Cooper was reported missing several weeks prior to the discovery of her remains.

A suspect was arrested and charged in connection with the case following a police investigation.

Police at the time did not say what led them to an arrest in connection with this case.

Albert Ian Ohab was charged with one count of committing an indignity to a body and appeared in court on the weekend.

Police have not said whether the discovery of the human hand and the torso are related.
