Police have charged a man, who is already in custody facing charges in a mass shooting in North York, with first-degree murder in the death of a 47-year-old man.

Andrew Surage of Toronto, a father of five, was shot Oct. 5 2014 outside an unlicensed after-hours club in the Weston Road and Rogers Road area.

Police say he was shot after he came to the aid of a friend who was being robbed.

Surage died of a gunshot wound to his chest.

At the time, police released surveillance video that shows the suspect was in the company of two men and a woman Clifton Vassel, 28, of Toronto was charged with first-degree murder. He was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning.

In April, Vassel was charged with multiple offences, including five counts of attempted murder, in connection with a shooting at a North York apartment complex in the Jane and Wilson area and is awaiting trial.
