An Ontario teen whose swim across Lake Erie ended slightly shy of her destination, after she could no longer overcome challenging weather conditions, says she plans to finish her swim later this summer.

Annaleise Carr, a 16-year-old marathon swimmer from Walsh, Ont., kicked off her planned 75-kilomtere swim across Lake Erie on Friday, but was forced to cut her journey short Saturday morning near Long Point, Ont., after consulting with her swim coaches and officials.

Carr said difficult weather conditions made it tough for her to continue the journey.

"It was a tough decision to stop at Long Point, but I made the right one. No excuses at all but I sure don't have much luck with the weather on the Great Lakes," Carr said at press conference on Sunday afternoon.

Carr, who was swimming to raise money for Camp Trillium, a camp that offers year-round recreational programs to children with cancer, nevertheless raised more than $150,000 through her efforts.

"I'd like to thank everyone for their support and notes of congratulations and the thousands of dollars we've raised for Camp Trillium," Carr told reporters at a press conference in Waterford, Ont. Sunday. "You have no idea how good it makes me feel.”

The Fundraising Director at Camp Trillium, Fiona Fisher, says support for Carr had been so overwhelming that she wouldn't be surprised if donations exceed the $200,000 mark by next week.

Carr also told reporters she plans to fulfill her promise to the kids at Camp Trillium, and hopes to complete her swim from Long Point to Port Dover, Ont., later this summer.

"I also want to encourage the kids at Camp Trillium and everybody to never give up. I'm always telling people to pick something they love and never give up, this is my chance to show them how important those words are to me also," Carr said.

In 2012, Carr completed a swim across Lake Ontario, becoming the youngest known person to accomplish the feat.
